Jung-man Cho (조정만, Jo Jeongman) was born on July 1st, 1979 and is a Korean manhwa artist known for the fantasy manhwa Witch Hunter which he is both the author and illustrator to. In omakes, he usually uses Halloween's pumpkin form to represent himself and his assistant L-yang resembles Halloween's human form but with a baggy, striped jumper.
Personal Life[]
Cho was born in Daegu, South Korea in 1979 as the youngest of three siblings.
When he was thirteen, Cho was hospitalized due to asthma where he read his first comic book, Dragon Ball, a well known manga by Akira Toriyama. After that point he became interested in manhwa and his favorite series are now Dragon Ball and Berserk by Kentaro Miura. His interest for this area stretches to anime since his favorite music is anime songs. His favorite artist is Rumiko Takahashi, an affluent manga artist and one of the best selling female comic artists in history well known for the manga InuYasha and many other series. It is suspected that she was one of Cho's inspirations.[1]
Although he has a strong connection to the anime/manga industry, Cho's favorite films are Jurassic Park and Terminator 2 which are both action packed horror films. His favorite singer is Michael Jackson and favorite actor is Edward Norton, both of which are American just like his much-loved films but his preferred novel is the French classic Le Comte de Monte-Cristo (The Count of Monte Cristo) by Alexandre Dumas.
At 22 he had his first love. It is known that he was in an ongoing relationship in 2008 (29 years old) and before that point he hadn't undergone a serious break up.
Witch Hunter (2006-Current)[]
In many omakes, Cho makes most of them about the characters, or about himself and his helpers. It's known that his friends were mostly against him drawing more revealing female characters. In one omake, L-yang the assistant mentioned shonen-ai (boy's love) since there were a bunch of options and there were some cuts where there is hints of shoujo-ai (girl's love), but Cho rejected that idea.
To draw the characters uniforms and clothes, he takes inspiration in a japanese magazine that almost exclusively showcases black and white outfits. He takes more and more interest in military uniforms.[2]
In order to promote his series, Cho traveled to France in 2008 where he was a guest at the local Comic-Con and was interviewed on behalf of Ki-oon, the French publisher of the series.[3][4]
